Identification Numbers (or inventory numbers)
Since 2004 I have been keeping track of work with a set of numbers next to my signature on the back of pieces. Almost every single piece I’ve created has a number (those few pieces without numbers are not part of a series – just work filling a need to say something). The first two numbers represent the year of completion, followed by a dash, then two numbers representing the series of work with a particular theme, followed by a dash, then the last two numbers representing the order of completion within the series. For example: 11-23-04. Work done in year 2011, the series is 23 which reads: Paper collage on paper, background is painted over texture usually created with modeling paste with no words in the composition. The emphasis is on faces and hands with ornate costumes in pattern and decoration detail with much experimentation. The last two numbers tell that this work was the fourth in the series.
The current series is number 30. This is a group of 16 individual pieces that each represent one of the personality types recognized in the field of psychology. Mixed media on paper: 26" h. x 19". Begun in March, 2014 with anticipated completion September, 2014.
