Wheel thrown stoneware, distorted bowl playing with a handle that explodes off one side and lands opposite.
3 Storage Pots, stoneware, 18” h., 1980’s
I would make wood templates and roll out slabs of clay, cut to shape and handbuild major portions and then attach wheel thrown sections, in these, with lids and handles.
Floor Pot, handbuilt ceramic tile inlay both sides, approximately 34 inches high,1988
After the pot was handbuilt I carved out a shape on both sides of the pot to hold tile shapes that would be cemented in place and then grouted. The theme here is of a favorite cat.
Megan and Emily, ceramic frame and tile, 36” dia., 1990’s, Collection Jamestown Community College
This is one of a set of four pieces purchased by Jamestown Community College and permanently installed in the lobby of the new Science building, 2012. The negative space lettering reads: Megan and Emily. My daughter Megan and a favorite poet Emily Dickinson from the only known photo of the poet. The frame was wheel thrown and the flat surface is made of flat tile shapes that have been cemented and grouted to 3/4 inch plywood.
I've Come to Talk to You Again, 24" Dia., 1987
I created a series of large wall plates that used sgraffito techniques with underglazes and most had words that came from Simon and Garfunkel lyrics. The letter forms were made using negative space around the letter to create the form.
